Pama: A Script Amp That Earns Its Space
Practical Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test it in black and white first. Pama’s subtlety can vanish under low-contrast backgrounds or soft lighting — especially on packaging mockups.
- Check readability at 14 pt and smaller. It starts to lose legibility fast below 16 pt in print, and even faster on mobile screens. Never assume.
- Try it on real mockups — not just thumbnails. I once loved Pama in a Figma preview, only to find the ‘f’ and ‘k’ clashed awkwardly on a curved wine label. Physical context changes everything.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage side-by-side. Uppercase feels formal and iconic; lowercase feels inviting and narrative. Choose deliberately.
- Review spacing — especially kerning pairs like ‘To’, ‘Va’, and ‘We’. Some versions need manual adjustment in logo design to avoid unintended gaps.
- Test font pairing rigorously: beside a classic serif font (e.g., Adobe Garamond), a neutral sans serif (e.g., Montserrat), another script font (to avoid monotony), a true handwritten font (to gauge contrast), and a bold display font (to check dominance).
- Confirm commercial licensing before client or business use. Script Amp offers clear licensing tiers — but if you’re bundling Pama into a Canva template or Cricut design pack for resale, verify the extended license covers that scope. Skipping this step risks real legal friction down the line.
